Engraved Lace Bobbins

Adding beauty to this world through the engraving arts seems to come naturally to a few people. No matter how big or small, engraving can give just the right touch of elegance and class to anything.

These small lace bobbins (each around 5" in length) have that little touch of beauty. Engraved by Marci Willis of Piedmont, Oklahoma, the tiny cylinder of sterling silver on each bobbin is covered with engraved work. Willis chose to engrave delicate leaves, flowers, pears, and even a simple running leaf border to decorate each bobbin.

She said, "For the past twenty years, I have made lace and used bobbins for making the lace. English bobbins have traditionally been decorated, so I decided to decorate my own bobbins using my engraving skills." Willis said her inspiration behind these decorated bobbins was to make the only hand-engraved sterling silver bobbins on the market. Her future goals include getting in more practice and taking a Grand Master's course at the GRS Training Center.
