A Young Perspective on Engraving & Jewelry

Lara Yaremko traveled from Queensland, Australia, all the way to Emporia, Kansas, so that she could gain new artistic skills. While talking about engraving and jewelry at the training center, Yaremko had excitement in her voice and passion in her eyes thanks to the engraving arts.

Although she has only been engraving for a very short time, Yaremko has already completed two consecutive GRS Training Center courses and is ready for more. The in-class practice piece here shows a bit of Yaremko's flair for a style composed of thin lines with a square graver and wide shapes cut with a flat graver. She wants to mix traditional engraving and stone setting techniques into a modern style for jewelry.

Yaremko commented, "I can't wait to recreate this design in gold / silver — pierced metal with a large claw set stone in the center surrounded by smaller head set stones . . . this will be a unique, beautiful pendant." Yaremko's plans for the future include using her GRS GraverMax and her new skills for creating contemporary jewelry, and eventually opening her own store.
